About US
Sister Soap Company, located in San Luis Obispo, CA, is owned and operated by sisters, Jan Cordone and Lynette Dunlap. As with most soap-makers, they began making soap as a hobby. They soon realized, however, that together they had created a product that everyone loved! Jan brings knowledge of aromatherapy and essential oils from her background in massage therapy and Lynette's creative talents and love of cooking create a perfect soapmaking combination.
"We hope you enjoy the benefits of using our natural handmade soaps as much as we do! Grandma (right, in our label picture) would be proud that we are keeping you clean, the old-fashioned way!"
About Our Soaps
What's so special about our handmade soap?
Aside from being made with wholesome ingredients, handmade soap retains its glycerin, a natural humectant that helps keep moisture next to your skin. Commercial soapmaking processes remove this wonderful byproduct, but we make small batches of true soap with natural ingredients so that all the glycerin is left intact, ready to moisturize your skin!
Is your soap made with animal products?
All of our handmade soap bases are made with all vegetable food-grade oils. Some of our soaps have additional ingredients that come from animals (honey and milk), but most of our products are completely vegan.
Do handmade soaps require special care?
Handmade soaps should never sit in a dish that accumulates water. If you keep your soap well-drained, it will last much longer and will retain its luxurious lather.
How long does soap-making take?
The entire process can take up to 8 weeks. Our base soap is made by mixing oils, lye and water. When the soap is removed from its molds, it is cut into bars and allowed to cure. After the curing process is complete (usually about 4-6 weeks)......the lye is gone. What is left is a natural bar of true soap. The addition of botanicals and essential oils makes each soap appealing to different tastes or skin types.
Why do some batches look different than others?
Each batch of our soap is artisan made in small batches. Conditions, such as temperature, can cause batches to differ slightly in appearance and/or scent but don't affect the wonderful quality of our soaps.
Do you test your products on animals?
None of our products are tested on animals. Every recipe has been thoroughly tested---on friends and family! However, everyone's skin is different so please discontinue use with any adverse reaction!
Can you make soaps for special occasions?
Yes, in fact, we have created both custom scented batches and soaps with personalized labels for special gifts, bridal showers, wedding favors, etc. Please keep in mind that some custom order soaps are sold by the batch (16 bars) and take 4-6 weeks to create. Give us a call or e-mail us with your ideas and we will do our best to accommodate them. In the meantime, click here to see custom orders we have done in the past.
